This is a comparison between a 2008 remastered issue of ride the lightning and a 1986 original issue of master of puppets.
Original issue vs reissue vinyl.
I prefer original up until about 25.
Speak spell sony music legacy 2016 180gram vinyl vs original mute records stumm5 1981.
Found an old record that looks and feels new.
If the original is more than that then i will look at the reissue.
For me this edition at 180 grams is pretty good maybe better than the original but the problem of this.
I ve heard that most of these reissues are copied directly from a digital recording or a cd and the sound quality is not the best.
Normally a reissue shows variances from the original including the sourcing of masters country of origin packaging and even format.
Purchased a new copy of cosmos factory lately.
That said many factors help determine whether you ve purchased a good or bad pressing of a record.
But the 25 rule holds pretty steady.
When verifying the pressings of your record collection match all the information on the sleeve with the original pressing.
Although i do prefer to get the best master so if there is a reissue with fairly better mastering i ll get that or vice versa.
I m new into vinyl and i m not sure if it s worth spending much more money in original pressings rather than buying an 180g reissue.
A quality reissue can offer a great alternative to owning a scratchy original or spending big money on something scarce.
Depends on the genre and release year and stuff like that too.
Different albums so the comparison isn t direct but you get the idea.
A looser term reissue applies to a wider variety of releases.
